Event description

PROUDLY PRESENTED BY Common Ground Queensland (CGQ)

Join us for a fun filled rooftop cocktail event and support us in ENDING HOMELESSNESS. It will be an evening of fabulous entertainment featuring the brilliant Hamilton Band, a live auction and bid for ‘money can’t buy experiences’, while sipping champagne, enjoying fantastic canapes, and looking over the Brisbane skyline.

We believe that everyone has a right to live in dignity and have a safe place to call home! Therefore, our mission is to END HOMELESSNESS, a person at a time, with the communities in which we operate. Homelessness is a solvable problem: your donation will help us to create homes for individuals and families in our community who are currently homeless.

CGQ is the first supportive, affordable, and permanent housing project in Queensland. In 2012, CGQ began to provide homes; it has a record of proven success with ten years of experience in serving formerly homeless and low-income individuals and families. CGQ provides homes for the vulnerable, such as domestic violence survivors and formerly rough sleepers. In 2021, CGQ provided homes for 316 people, including 59 children, within its three main programs: Brisbane Common Ground, Supportive Housing for Families, and Asylum-seeking individuals and families.

CGQ provides much more than just a roof over tenants’ heads. It offers the tenants a safe place to call home through permanent and affordable housing that is intentionally linked to dedicated, tailored support services. The descent into chronic homelessness is a brutal process that is impossibly difficult to reverse without extensive and ongoing support. This combination of safe housing and ongoing support services enables the formerly homeless to reobtain stability, develop their life skills, gain a sense of self-worth and confidence, and grow hope for a better future.

The Common Ground model of Supportive Housing originated in New York City in the early 80s. Due to the success of the model in ending homelessness, it has expanded internationally. In Australia, five States and one Territory now have at least one Common Ground development. The sixth State is currently planning for two new developments.
