Event description

Gallie is a critically acclaimed songwriter from Ireland. His album 'The Occoquan River' has made it to a number of Best of the year lists from radio and press in both the US and Australia. Gallie is a natural raconteur who's performances have been getting rave reviews over the past year, "Sublime lyrics, tremendous melodies, sung by a singer with a voice that is both soulful and incredibly expressive", combine this with a killer story and you have the masterful art of Gallie and 'The Occoquan River'.

Joining Gallie on the night will be pianist Dan Brown. Dan is a renowned and accomplished pianist who has played with a host of musicians including Pete Murray, Red Bantoo, the bird and Kelly Knight, ‘Roots on the move’ tour in India with Aurora Jane,The S.A. symphony, Boom festival in Portugal with ‘Morph’, Byron Blues fest with ‘soul’d’ and Jodi Martin and Mullum fest with Shelly Brown.

“One of the outstanding releases this year....The Occoquan River is brilliant.”Paul Gough, The Inside Sleeve, ABC Radio National. Today we are immersed in noise, and surrounded with distraction and insincerity for the most part, yet the voices of authenticity are plentiful in the underbelly of the music world. You needn't scratch the surface too far to unearth one, and Gallie stands brazen amongst them all. Gallie’s original songs contribute his own colour to a significantly rich canvas that echo the influence of legendary Irish forefathers such as Van Morrison, and extend a warm handshake to folk artists like Neil young and John Martyn.

Music concert with original songs. Interspersed with humorous, witted and intelligent stories, describing the background behind the songs and the inspiration that brought them to life.

Doors open at 7pm for a cabaret seated concert start at 8pm. The Citadel is a licenced venue (no byo please). While we do have some nibbles available, we encourage you to support our wonderful local Murwillumbah restaurants. The bar  closes at 11:30pm.
