This free workshop is organised as part of Mental Health Month. The theme for this year's Mental Health Month is 'Tune In'. Tuning in means being present, being aware of what's happening within you and in the world around you. Tune In to your senses and take a moment to help still and focus your mind, as well as build positive connections.

What the session will be about

  • Early Warning Signs: How can I tell?
  • SELFCARE101: The importance of looking after yourself.
  • Connection: The antidote to isolation.
  • Professional Supports: What is avaiable and how do I access it?
  • Being Prepared: Stress management resources?

What participants will learn from the session

  • Understand the effects of prolonged stress on mental health.
  • Stress management strategies.
  • What professional supports are available and how to access them.

About the presenters

Michael Wai is a clinical psychologist currently working for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District with adults and young people in a community mental health centre. He has previously worked in private mental health hospitals as well as headspace. In January 2020, he was part of a bushfire relief team sent to regional NSW to provide assistance to local community mental health teams affected by the Black Summer bushfires. He has a particular interest in working with personality disorders as well as the de-stigmatisation of mental health in society.

Carly Garlick, is an occupational therapist currently working with young people living with mental distress in a community mental health centre in South Eastern Sydney Local Health District.
