He whakataukī:

"He moana pukepuke e ekengia e te waka"
(a rough sea can be navigated)

When the destination is unknown, the way ahead choppy, and the ride uncomfortable is when the kaiurungi (navigators/decision makers) throw their weight of experience into charting a new course, holding things steady whilst the kaihoe (paddlers/crew) reset their bearings.

Are you a decision maker?  This retreat is crafted for kaiurungi:  for visionaries, CEOs, key business decision makers, boss-adjacents, board members, people whose mahi is in startup spaces  -  anyone with their sights set on influencing the big shifts at work, in your community, country or industry.

Are you casting about for some support/challenge/inspiration? The world shifted in 2020 and big change is cresting on the horizon. Here at Collective Intelligence we work in the business wellbeing space, and we see many decisions makers overwhelmed by the current intensity of change. There’s a temptation to steer back towards the safety of what we've done before. But this is your chance to reconfigure the map, rewrite the rules, partake of the kotahitanga (unity, togetherness) of tackling big problems collectively and not only learn from COVID-19 but also the economic and social experiences that have accompanied it.

This retreat will:

  • allow you the time and space to review the things you believe in and why you believe in them,
  • give you the opportunity to hang out and connect with a select group of other like-hearted (but not like-minded) people grappling with and learning from the 2020 experience, and
  • help you craft a personal plan for making a big difference in your work from here on in. This is your time to be really strategic (at a scale of anything from 5 - 100 years) about where you/your business/your industry/community is heading and your role in that journey.

Do not sign up for this if:

  • you know the answers or have concrete plans for what lies ahead,
  • you aren’t into taking risks,
  • you’re set in your views and like to be comfortable, or
  • you think everything is just fine as it is.

But, if you’re someone who is:

    • courageous and curious and you don’t expect the status quo to continue,
    • interested and invested in improving our world, and are
    • looking for people who will challenge you and help create clarity on your big ideas.

Then you’ll want to be with us at the beautiful Makoura Lodge in the wilds of the Manawatū on 20-22 October.

      FAQ’s:

      >>What do I get for my investment?

      • Nature: you’ll be immersed in an experiential, group-learning environment lead by our intrepid and experienced Collective Intelligence facilitator, Sarah TockerYou will spend time IN (and maybe on and under!) nature.
      • Knowledge: you’ll be working with contemporary information on how the world/business/community/leaders can activate and engage in this new landscape of work.
      • Stretch: you’ll engage in boundary-pushing stuff that will inspire you to operate differently. It will be uncomfortable and you will need to sit with that - no apologies.
      • A ‘Dragons Den’ of humanity: you’ll get to chuck your big ideas around, unpick and reassemble them - all with the help of others who are wrestling with their own real problems.

        >>Is there mahi beforehand? Yup. And you’ll need to do it.

        • Do your research: and have a dig into where those big ideas of yours have come from. Is it hunches, reading a seminal book, podcasts - what’s their source?
        • Bring your idea/s: ready to share but make sure you’re not married to them - for they may be pulled apart and re-imagined!
        • Show up for: the pre-event zui (Zoom hui) where we’ll explain what you’re getting into, give you a chance to eyeball your colleagues and arrange some administrivia like carpooling and getting to the venue from the nearest airport at Palmerston North.

        >>Accessibility - if you have needs in this area please contact us ahead of registering so we can discuss how we can make it work for you.

        >>Is there followup? For sure!

        1. A post-event peer-pairing exercise - will ensure connections forged will flourish and the mahi continues.
        2. Zui Tahi - 8 weeks post-event we’ll facilitate a group checkin via Zoom.
        3. Zānanga (Zoom Wānanga)- 6 months on from the event we’ll facilitate a group check-in via Zoom looking at ‘what difference have you made to where it matters?’

          >>NZTE Funding Support: This event is now registered with NZTE 's Management Capability Development Voucher Fund. Attendees may be eligible for funding that covers up to 50% of the registration fee. >>Small Group Success: you’ll learn as part of a group of 8-10 people (up to two groups may operate concurrently on the retreat).

          >>And the fine print?

          • some form-filling will be required (a medical declaration),
          • bring footwear and a mindset ready for movement (you’ll be outdoors in Spring in the muddy Manawatu!), and
          • be prepared for fun AND discomfort.
