Night In for Afghan Women

Event description

*this event has passed (held on 1st Oct 2021) but the event page is being left open for donations*

We will close this page on 10th Oct so that we can transfer everything to the charity and will send out an email with the final amount raised.

Hi Fabulous People!

After falling back under Taliban rule a few weeks ago, Afghanistan is going through a crisis where millions of peoples' lives and freedoms are at risk - especially women and girls.

This crisis is continuing to deteriorate, with so much displacement and violence. There is an immediate need for basic items such as food, water, milk for babies, shelter, hygiene and medical supplies, as well as more complicated needs such as relocation where possible. Many of the international aid organisations in Afghanistan have left, with the airports and banks closed.

Figuring out how to help can seem daunting, but what we CAN do is educate ourselves, donate, engage with Afghan voices, stay kind, and make sure we keep talking about it and keep engaging (even after the media storm settles).

With restrictions and lock-downs in place throughout Australia, we are limited in face-to-face events, so we thought a fun night in was in order while we raise some much needed funds and awareness. So we are going to get comfy, get fabulous and give as if we'd gone out for the night!

What are we doing?

We have been fortunate enough to partner with Alastair Mosey from Sensation Makeup Artistry to offer us a live makeup tutorial. He will teach us how to use the products that we already have at home to help us feel fabulous day-to-day, or for a special night out...we're all about self-love and feeling comfortable in our own skin, so whether you wear makeup or not, let's have some fun and celebrate our freedom of expression!

The idea is for us to all do our makeup together in real-time!

Learn:

* How to recognise your undertones

* Contouring

* Concealing

* Eye shapes

...and much more!

We will send you the list of makeup products you will need prior to the event (aiming to mostly use things you might have in your makeup stash at home already). You can then do your makeup along with us and have a fun and informative night in (at the very least, have a laugh at our expense)!

Everyone is welcome - get comfortable - get snacks - learn some stuff and make a difference!

Flexible Ticketing - Please Give What You Can:

Your 'ticket' is your donation!

We have decided to allow you to choose the price of your ticket as that will be your donation.

The booking fee is on top of the ticket price to cover transfer fees, etc, so you can decide on the amount you would like to donate and you know the full amount is going where you've intended. All participants have donated their time, so everything that is raised will be transferred directly to the charity. We will be able to announce the total amount raised during the event and you will also receive a DGR receipt, as the ticket will be tax-deductible as a charitable donation.

Who are we donating to?

The organisation that the funds will be directed to is Mahboba's Promise. They are an Australian NFP who have been helping the most vulnerable people in Afghanistan for over 25 years (Mahboba herself was born in Kabul - read her story here). They have people on the ground in Afghanistan helping the women, children and allies directly. They are not leaving.
Their current efforts are focused on the needs of the 900+ families that have set up camp outside Kabul and the Panjshir Valley community who have no access to food and basic needs. They are also helping to relocate people to safer regions where that is possible. The number of displaced orphans, widows and families grows daily, with the UN estimating over 1.25 million people displaced and counting.

Please check out their website to find out more about the amazing work they are doing. We will be sharing more information prior to, and throughout the event.

*we are not acting on behalf of this organisation, only raising funds and passing them along.

I am doing my best to get informed on what is happening, but I am by no means an expert, nor do I have lived experience on these issues, so I am very open to being corrected or challenged. I am very conscious of not asking anyone personally affected by this to do any additional emotional labour by asking them to come and educate everyone. However if anyone who has been affected wants to join us to have a chat or tell your story, the platform is all yours (please feel free to contact me) - Jenna
