Macleay River Historical Museum
The history of the Macleay Valley is as fascinating as it is diverse and one of the best ways to appreciate it is to visit the Macleay River Historical Society's award-winning Museum in South Kempsey. The Museum, housed in the unique Glenn Murcutt Building adjacent to the Visitor Information Centre, traces the valley's history from the time of the Aborigines to today.
"Step back in Time" guided walking tour
Let’s step back in time and discover the fascinating history of the Macleay Valley on foot with our very own guide. There are ten different walks in the Macleay Valley including Bellbrook, South West Rocks and Gladstone have been put together by the Macleay Historical Society.
Dunghutti-Ngaku Aboriginal Art Gallery
The Dunghutti Ngaku Aboriginal Art gallery showcases the work of prominent established and emerging artists of the Dunghutti region and the Mid North Coast, including prints by the late Robert Campbell Jr. The gallery is housed in the annexe of the Kempsey Visitor Information Centre, an intriguing building designed by
Lou’s Cafe
Lou's is a wonderful example of a retro 50's style regional cafe. One of those long thin cafes that you find in country towns with big menus and cosy tables set in plush, intimate booths. The walls are adorned with 50s movie posters and classic Hollywood star pictures.
Slim Dusty Centre
Enjoy the costumes, the images of Australian life and its people, the music of some of Australia’s finest musicians and the insights into Australia’s vast history and geography that only Slim and Joy’s sixty years on the road can provide.

Itinerary: Pickups will commence by 08:30. Arriving in Kempsey around 10:00. Look through the museum before our guided tour commences. Check out the Art Gallery before we head into Lou’s for a well-deserved lunch! Our last stop of the day is at the Slim Dusty Centre. Drop-offs should commence around 15:30.
