1.001@W64 is hosted in Warehouse 64, a lighting fabrication workshop.
Originally, this space was the electroplating room of the LM Ericsson Factory.

Operating from 1960-2007, the factory expanded communication networks in Australia and the Asia-Pacific. It now houses an array of workshops, schools, businesses and designers.

Orphaned furniture, fixtures and remnants of the factory's former glory still exist throughout the space.

For this event, the artists will draw from the Ericsson Factory’s unique history. Some works are site-specific, responding directly to the environment, while others use the space as a backdrop.

NC(-A) is an artist-run initiative curated by Nadia Cao-Alahanthan.

It brings together artists from different practices, some Early stage, and others more established, to present their ideas, improvisations and experiments in response to a space.

Every day, spaces become a testing ground to encourage Ad-hoc and adaptive ways of working. This is to share knowledge about how to do and what to look out for, allowing artists to grow their language and voice.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we gather, create, and organise. These are living lands, rich with culture, story, and mechanisms of creation that span thousands of generations.

We recognise that the ‘spaces’ we speak of and move within are not neutral, they are lines drawn across lands that have long been known, named, and lived.

We also acknowledge the enduring presence of First Nations Peoples, and the ongoing histories of violence and dispossession that continue to impact them. We pay our deepest respects to Elders past, present, and emerging, and honour the strength, care, and knowledge that continues to shape this place.
