HAVEN ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY WEEKENDER

Haven proudly presents our One Year Anniversary Weekender. Three days of music, movement and celebration, marking one year since our doors opened.

Kicking off night one, Midland brings his unmistakable, genre-defying sound to Haven. Renowned for his eclectic selections and ability to take dancefloors on a journey, Midland moves seamlessly between house, techno, breaks and everything in between, delivering deep grooves, unexpected twists and infectious rhythms. Joining him is Nice Girl, the New Zealand-born, Melbourne-based DJ and producer Ruby Kerkhofs. Known for her playful, psychedelic approach to electronic music, Nice Girl navigates trippy house, hypnotic techno, cosmic melodies and left-field club sounds. With releases on acclaimed independent label Public Possession and a reputation for adventurous, unpredictable sets, she brings a distinctive energy to the dancefloor. Joining them on support will be local favourites and residents Jai PIccone and Exxy for a b2b.

For night two, Cioz takes over, bringing his signature blend of psychedelic house, driving rhythms and immersive electronic soundscapes to keep the anniversary celebrations in full swing in collaboration with Flow Music. Joining us from Brisbane, we welcome Australian legend, Phil Smart, as well as Winona Router. Local Haven resident Asha Franco will also be joining the lineup for some tasteful sundowner delights.

Closing out the weekend, we head to the terrace for a special Sunday terrace party with Steve Bug. A true pioneer of the European house and minimal scene, Steve Bug has spent decades shaping dancefloors around the world with his refined selections, deep grooves and timeless approach to underground music. On support, we welcome a stacked lineup including DJ Ingrid, Luke MCD, Al Royale, and Zac Stars. Terrace and vinyl sorted all day.

MIDLAND

Midland is a DJ, Producer and Record label owner from London.

Through his productions, DJ sets and record labels, Midland's output comes across as unassuming and surprising in equal measure, at once subtle, refined and totally raucous.

As a Producer Midland’s style has nimbly evolved from one record to the next. From his debut release with Pearson Sound (aka Ramadanman) “Your Words Matter” via “Trace” to his most recent Ep “You Never Take Me Dancing” he has explored a vast range of styles whilst managing to keep a core sound that is truly his own. In 2013 he started his label “Graded" to focus on releasing his own music, “Archive 01”, “Drumtrak” and “Blush” all followed. This was followed by the arrival of another label, ReGraded, in which he explored the art of sampling with “Double Feature” and culminating with the release of “Final Credits” a sleeper hit that went on to be voted Mixmags song of the year in 2016 and landed at 120 in Rolling Stones best dance tracks of all time. His label InterGraded was launched in 2018 focussed on releasing music by new or emerging artists.

He has remixed, amongst others, Dua Lipa, The Chemical Brothers, St Vincent and Darkstar.

It is arguable however that he has made his biggest impact with the other side of his craft: DJing. Delivering his kaleidoscopic taste with a mixing technique that nods as much to his British lineage as it does to a smoother European style, he has distinguished himself with an ability to switch styles in a way that always feels totally natural and is able to play in a way that shows a deep understanding of the space and what is needed to bring it alive. In the words of Resident Advisor “there’s a perfect record for every moment, and he usually has it”.

His recorded mixes have become word of mouth favourites and in 2016 he won “Essential Mix of the Year” for his entry into the series. In 2017 he recorded “Fabriclive94”, described by Pitchfork as “one of the year's best” and earned compilation of the year from Mixmag who featured him as their first cover of 2018. Fact Magazine said of the mix "Quietly, and without much fanfare, Midland has grown into one of the world’s best DJs. Fabriclive 94 is a testament to what makes him so great”.

In October 2024, he released his debut album “Fragments of Us”, featuring the voices of artists like David Wojnarowicz, Marlon Riggs and Arthur Russell. Of the record Clash Magazine said “‘Fragments Of Us’ is packed with detail, ambitious in its intent and stunning in its execution” and awarded it a 9/10. Dazed magazine described it as “the concept album of the year” and it featured in the best albums of the year in Resident Advisor, Mixmag and Dj Mag respectively.

The only takeaway from these accolades is that Midland is a man still very much exploring and honing his craft and one of the key reasons that his ascent has never felt forced or manufactured.

NICE GIRL

Nice Girl is a D.J. and producer hailing from New Zealand.

Over the past 3 years she has made a name for herself as one of the most exciting producers out there. Releasing a string of EP‘s and her debut full length titled „Ipsum“ a wild 15 track long ride that has been paraphrased as „mind boggling, tongue in cheek, spiritual & danceable“ by RA. Her latest outing on Public Possession included the track „Take Me Home“ which is featured on the current edition of „Cafe Del Mar“ a particularly cheeky (guilty) pleasure for both the artist and her home label Public Possession. It also excellently shows how versatile Ruby is, serving just about anything from ultra trippy, psychedelic, trancelike electronics to bouncy vocal house or soothing trip hop. In the fall of 2023 her highly anticipated follow up to „Ipsum“ is going to be out. Ruby‘s second Album titled „UPP“ is more lighthearted compared to its predecessor, as she moves away from the somewhat darker, earthy tones of „Ipsum“ creating a fun, quirky, bleepy and fast universe where pitched vocals meet breakbeats and cosmic melodies.

When Nice Girl D.J.s, she‘s digging deep, playing heady, tripped out house and techno never forgetting what a dance floor should be all about: the fun!

In the past year she has been playing various clubs and festivals in New Zealand and Australia as well as her first booked out EU Tour.

CIOZ

An italian producer and dj class '92 from Bergamo (Italy). Resident dj of Bauhaus Party and sounds lover. Cioz has always had a bad relationship with rules. An obsessive desire to reinvent and break everything: ideas, habits and shapes. Driven and inspired by the idea of sharing knowledge and inspiration, Cioz has founded Knobs Bergamo; a community-based creative hub in Bergamo (Italy) where artists unite, collaborate, develop ideas and create.

Completely self-taught, he feels his music like smoothly random and organic: alive. He sees his music like a creature that grows and evolves by his side. It contradicts itself and gets always better. A continuous experiment, a tree of sounds. His motto is: "If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.” George Bernard Shaw

STEVE BUG

Steve Bug is one of electronic music’s true originals since 1984. His relentless commitment to quality - both in his own work and in the many producers he has championed - has made him one of the world’s most revered artists and curators, and along with his label Poker Flat has made a sizeable contribution to building the European house and techno scene as we know it.

A dedicated, energetic and constantly innovative talent, Resident Advisor once called Steve Bug the “gentleman of techno” referring to his sense of duty and dependability as one of the world’s most renowned DJs and producers. That same professionalism that means he’s hardly ever missed a DJ gig, is evident in his work as a composer, producer and owner of Poker Flat Recordings label: a label whose influence on house and techno cannot be overstated. Every step he takes is well considered but always tempered with his own fine sense of humor and innate love for his craft.

Having grown up in Germany’s techno and acid-house heyday, Steve Bug’s love for a perfect groove is as apparent now as it was back then. His DJ skills and a keen, innovative ear led him not down the typical path of the early nineties trance and harder dance scene, but instead towards a fresher, hybrid sound–merging stripped deep house, tweaked out acid and more minimal forms of techno and electronic music.

While dedicated to Poker Flat, Steve's music has also found a home on labels like Hot Creations, Nu Groove, Shall Not Fade, Bedrock, Knee Deep In Sound, Minus, Cocoon, Defected and of course Poker Flat and Sublease Music.

A rare electronic artist capable of crafting full-length albums, he has released seven studio LPs over the past two decades. Most recently, he launched Sublease Music, a Poker Flat sublabel focusing on deep, club-ready cuts. As Poker Flat marks 20 years, Sublease continues Steve’s mission of championing innovative underground sounds.
