Mess, Magic and Making: Inside the Artist’s Studio | Artist Talk with Michaela Gleave and Kim Leutwyler
Description
What really happens inside an artist’s studio? It’s where ideas get tested, materials get spilled, plans fall apart and, every so often, something unexpected comes together.
As part of Ten Years of Excellence: A Creative Precinct Retrospective, ACAR invites you to spend an afternoon with two artists who work just a few doors apart. Michaela Gleave and Kim Leutwyler have studios in the same building in the Creative Precinct, and have shared plenty of conversations along the way.
Their practices could hardly be more different. Michaela works with light, time and the cosmos, while Kim makes vibrant paintings and sculptures about identity, queerness and the natural world. Together they’ll talk about why studios matter: as places to experiment and make a mess, as communities, and as spaces where a chat with the artist next door can quietly change the direction of your work.
Expect honest stories, studio mishaps and a candid look at how two very different artists make their work, followed by time for questions from the audience.
