Node and React 101 Workshop by Cognizant
Event description
This 101 workshop will give you the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of React and Node.JS all while working as a team and collaborating on building code. We’ll explore the connection between front-end and back-end development and see the different ways React and Node.JS can be utilised. At the end of the week, we’ll have a showcase for you to show off your new skillset and hear from some amazing guest speakers about their life in tech.
This 101 workshop will include 3 x 1-hour sessions:
Monday 28th November: The 101 Workshops in action.
Wednesday 30th November: Mentoring session and drop-in tutoring for extra support
Friday 2nd December: Show and tell time! Present your work to your peers.

What is a 101 Workshop?
- A 101 Workshop is a beginner or introductory workshop into a new skill. It’s perfect for people who haven’t studied the topic before, or perhaps for those who studied it a long time ago and are after a refresher course
Who is running the training?
- Code Like a Girl partner Cognizant is running this workshop-style training. As a CLG partner, Cognizant is committed to supporting women and non-binary folk to succeed in the tech career and they believe continually developing skills is a great way to do that. This is a great chance for our community to connect with and learn from a leading industry partner.
What do I need to prepare?
- Install Visual Studio Code (Windows, Linux, Unix, Mac OS X etc.)
- Install Node.js on various platforms (Windows, Linux, Unix, Mac OS X etc.)
- Install Postman (Optional, to check Default, Get & Post request)
What outcomes can I expect from the course?
- This workshop will provide you with an entry-level understanding of the Node.JS and React language fundamentals.
Will this help me obtain an Internship?
- We recommend this workshop for beginner or entry-level coders who want to up-skill. This course won’t help secure an internship on its own but will be a great complementary course if you have completed studying and are looking to further your learning.
Will this help me get a job in coding?
- Learning and understanding the foundations of a coding language is always going to be helpful in securing a coding job. This workshop would make a great addition to your skill set and could help lead to possible internship programs which will help you in your long-term career.
