On Thursday 5 November, three early-stage not-for-profits tackling complex social challenges will pitch live for your backing. You'll hear directly from their founders, ask questions and help decide how the funding raised in the room is shared.

94% of philanthropic funding in Australia goes to the largest 10% of NFPs. The organisations working closest to the problems, often with the fewest resources, are the ones most easily overlooked. Were working to change that.

Some of the biggest barriers people face are the ones the rest of us don't see. Poor vision that makes it harder to find work or fill in a form. Systems built to support young people that quietly leave them behind. Young Australians struggling with their mental health, and the mates around them who don't know how to help.

Each participating NFP has been scouted, vetted and coached by our volunteer 10xer Program. Their founders get five minutes to make their case. You get two tokens, your own questions and a genuine say in how the funding is shared.

MEET THE NFPs PITCHING

Eyes of Hope was founded by three friends working across optometry, medicine and ophthalmology who kept meeting people who needed eye care but couldn’t access it.

Its volunteer-led mobile clinic brings free eye tests, prescription glasses and specialist referrals directly to people experiencing homelessness, removing barriers including cost, transport, Medicare eligibility and the need for a fixed address.

Eyes of Hope has already treated 154 patients, dispensed 142 pairs of glasses and made 32 urgent and specialist referrals. But an estimated 10,900 people experiencing homelessness in NSW may need glasses. The model works. The need is nowhere near met.

What could your $100 make possible? A pair of prescription glasses costs around $20. Direct both tokens to Eyes of Hope and you could help provide glasses for up to five people.

System 2 was established to go beyond the recommendations page. Created in 2022 by the Behavioural Insights Team and Nesta, it pairs behavioural science and systems thinking with the lived experience of young people to find the pressure points in employment services, access to careers, youth mental health, and early childhood education and care. A 12-person Youth Advisory Board helps set the research agenda, and the Paul Ramsay Foundation has funded a pilot focused on rebuilding agency and trust in employment services.

What could your $100 make possible? Direct both tokens to System 2 and you'll help move evidence beyond findings and towards practice, so successful ideas have a greater chance of changing how systems work for young people.

ALLKND is the mental health movement built for and by young Aussies. When a young person is struggling, the first person they turn to is almost never a professional. It's a mate. Its free digital Good Mate Training gives 15–24-year-olds the skills to recognise when a friend is struggling, start the conversation and connect them with help. More than 3,100 young people have completed the training, while Cause Club has more than 4,400 members across 76 Australian cities.

These are early-stage organisations. A good question from the floor can reshape how a founder thinks about their model. A contact in your network can open a door that funding can't. Come with your ideas, your professional experience and your scepticism. That's what the pitch format is for.

You don't need to be a major philanthropist. You need to turn up, listen, ask good questions and vote. Bring a colleague, a client or the friend who's always asking where to give. The best 10x10 nights are the ones where people arrive in pairs and leave having met ten more.

WHAT IS 10x10?

10x10 is a not-for-profit accelerating social innovation in Australia. We find early-stage NFPs doing exceptional work with limited resources and recognition, and give them a platform, seed funding and a network of backers. Our live crowdfunding events raise critical early capital, while we work with philanthropic partners to unlock multi-year pathways to scale. To date we've engaged more than 25,000 people, backed over 500 NFPs and influenced more than $30 million in donations.

The organisations we support are typically under seven years old, have revenue under AUD3M, and are using innovative solutions to tackle challenges including domestic violence, homelessness, recidivism, mental health, accessibility and food insecurity. Organisations we've backed that have gone on to do big things include Orange Sky, Confit Pathways, Fighting Chance, Batyr and This Is A Conversation Starter (TIACS).
