Event description

Introduction

The 11th Workshop of the Australian Chapter of the International Association of Protective Structures (IAPS-AUS) will be hosted by Swinburne University of Technology (SUT) on 29 November 2024 (Fri)

The event will take place at the SUT main campus, Hawthorn Campus, which is conveniently located near Glenferrie train station, as well as numerous hotels and restaurants. Our main campus is situated just ten minutes from Melbourne's Central Business District, in one of the city's most dynamic inner-city suburbs.

The Australian Chapter of the International Association of Protective Structures (IAPS-AUS) was founded in Newcastle in June 2011 for the purpose of promoting research and development associated with Protective Structures in Civil Engineering in Australia. Primary objectives are: bringing experts together working in the field of protective structures in Australia, being the umbrella for different actions, supporting the International Conference on Protective Structures (ICPS) held every two years, promotion of other professional activities, and supporting the publications of the International Journal of Protective Structures (IJPS).

Academic researchers, engineers, defence and security personnel, managing authorities, construction companies, and those interested in impact engineering and protective structures are welcome to attend this one day event, and to benefit from discussions with the multi-disciplinary group of attendees.

Call for Abstracts

Abstracts of around 200 words, including the title and the authors (please indicate who is the presenter), should be submitted by 14 October 2024 (Mon) to Dr Kwong Ming (KM) Tse (with a subject of IAPS-AUS Workshop) <ktse@swin.edu.au>. No written paper is required.

Please note that, following the tradition of IAPS-AUS Chapter annual forums, we will need to limit the number of presentations, e.g., one presentation from one institution/organisation, depending on the time slots availability, and it will be on first come first serve basis. However, there is no restriction on attendance. All interested people are welcome to attend the event.

This event covers a wide range of topics, including but not limited to the following:

  • Strengthening and mitigation measures for infrastructure protection
  • Numerical simulation of explosion and impact loading effects and structural response
  • Projectile penetration and perforation
  • Protective and innovative materials
  • Counter-terrorism
  • Experimental studies and full-scale tests
  • Material behaviour at high strain rates
  • Vehicle impact with structures
  • Probabilistic and uncertainty modelling
  • Weapons effects on structures
Key Dates
  • Abstract submission deadline: 14 October 2024 (Mon)
  • Registration deadline: 4 November 2024 (Mon) [Extended to 7 November 2024 (Thur)]
