    Event description

Everyone is invited and welcome to join us on Wangan and Jagalingou Country, to celebrate one year of Reoccupation at Waddananggu and learn about the power and significance of reoccupying land to protect Culture.

WHAT: Five day gathering, with ceremonies, workshops, speakers and music, to celebrate one year of Waddananggu. Bring your bike for day trips on Wangan and Jagalingou Country.

WHEN: Monday 22nd to Friday 26th August

WHERE: Wangan and Jagalingou country in central Queensland, based at the Waddananggu Cultural Ceremony site, around a 13 hour drive north from Brisbane and 9 hours drive south from Cairns.

In August 2021, Wangan and Jagalingou Cultural Custodians set up a stone Bora ring and ceremonial ground opposite Adani’s mine and have been continuously re-occupying our land since then, asserting our human rights as Wangan and Jagalingou people to practise culture. Despite Adani’s attempts to remove and antagonise us, we have continued our cultural ceremony unhindered. And we have made history - our rights to practise our culture on a mining lease have now been recognised under the Queensland Human Rights Act.

This could be the turning point for Indigenous peoples' rights to say NO to mining companies. Because it is not just our stories and totems that are under threat. Across the country, mining companies and the Government are stealing Aboriginal land, dividing our people and destroying our sacred sites.

We need a new direction. We need to reoccupy our lands and reclaim our culture.

We are taking our land back.

Join us for this five day gathering at Waddananggu to celebrate one year of Reoccupation. Stand with us to protect our human rights to practice ceremony and culture on Country.
