2021 Great Victorian Fish Count - Across our Great Southern Reef

The 2021 Great Victorian Fish Count is coming!

Join our ReefWatch team for a night of celebrating the Great Southern Reef, home to many of our iconic Fish Count species.

The Great Southern Reef is a vibrant, diverse and important reef system
spanning the entire southern half of the continent, and it's closer than
most of us think!

As well as learning more about the Fish Count you'll hear from passionate people who have spent their careers studying and advocating for our Great Southern Reef.

You'll hear from our guest speakers, Sahira Bell of the Great Southern Reef project and Dr Prue Francis of Deakin University.

Sahira is a scientific advisor to the Great Southern Reef project and the lead scientist responsible for the designation of the Great Southern Reef as a Mission Blue Hope Spot.

Prue is the director of Deakin University’s Bachelor of Marine Science, with a passion for increasing ocean literacy that has led her to write her own children’s book on the Great Southern Reef. We can't wait to be inspired by their stories!

Seventy per cent of Australians live within 50 km of the Reef, so no surprise that its algae- and sponge-dominated habitats feature heavily in our Fish Count surveys.

The Fish Count theme for 2021 is Across our Great Southern Reef; bringing well-deserved attention to this amazing ecosystem and highlighting the connectivity right along our coastline that we know so many of us are missing, and will soon have again.

This event will be held over Zoom- invite to follow registration.

Registration via Humantix is essential.
