AUDITION FOR OUR 2022 COMPANY!

Are you a dancer aged 8-25? Do you crave performing on a stage, seeing how large theatre shows are made, or creating your own choreography?

Audition to dance with Australia's leading youth-driven arts organisation!

Founded in 2016, Spark Youth Dance Co. facilitates the creation of brand new dance works produced and presented entirely by young people. We delve into interesting and deep topics of conversation through dance and share our stories through innovative performance seasons.

Our works are choreographed collaboratively by youth aged under 25 and are supported by a production team also lead by young people. This is the ultimate place to make new friends, get involved in the actual creation of live theatrical works and develop as a young artist and dancer with mentoring from an array of professional artists.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be aged 8-25 at time of audition
• Dancers aged 8-18 MUST be currently enrolled at a dance school (Spark does not offer weekly classes for technique)
• Dancers must have had at least 1 year of formal dance training (in any genre, although experience in contemporary dance and ballet is recommended)
• Dancers must check all season dates and ensure they are available for entire season before registering, must be available to commit to Sunday weekly rehearsals in Terms 1 and 3

AUDITION DETAILS:

Video Auditions:
To audition via video, simply send us at least 1min of clear video footage of yourself dancing, taken either today for the audition or a video from sometime within the last 12 months. The video must feature either contemporary or ballet genres. It could be:

• A video taken at home of at least 1 minute of contemporary improvisation to a song of your choice
• A video of a competition, school or performance solo
• A video of yourself dancing a phrase in a dance class
• A video of a group dance where you are clearly identifiable and visible throughout the piece
• Footage taken of yourself during a ballet or contemporary class

You must still register for auditions and pay the $20 audition fee via the link below so we have all your contact information.

Please send in all videos to admin@sparkyouthdance.com.au or upload to Google Drive and share to us no later than FRIDAY 25TH FEB 2022 at 10pm.

Videos will be assessed by our panel, just like in a regular in-person audition.

In 2022, dancers will participate in:

1. Short Works Season (Term 1, performances Thursday 21st & Friday 22nd April)

2. PLAYGROUND Youth Arts Event as part of the Mornington Peninsula Arts Festival (optional extra performance opportunity Saturday 30th April & other opportunities to volunteer and get involved in the festival)

3. New Full-Length Dance Work with live orchestra accompaniment at Frankston Arts Centre (Term 3, performances Thursday 29th & Friday 30th September - opportunity to be involved in regional tour of this work in 2023)
