Feb 2023 - Conquering Cervical Cancer with Liz Ham from ACCF
Event description
Conquering Cervical Cancer!
Alarmingly, nearly 45% of women are not up to date with their cervical screening, and women who have experienced domestic or sexual violence are more likely to be among those women.
FEATURED SPEAKER:
LIZ HAM
National Health Promotion Manager
Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation
Liz is the National Health Promotion Manager for the Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation (ACCF), a small charity with a big mission: to eliminate cervical cancer.
In the near future we hope to see this preventable disease eradicated in the way diseases like polio and smallpox have been in Australia.
Liz will share the work that ACCF carry out in Australia and in developing countries.
Like Zonta, ACCF work on a local and global level to make a difference to the lives of women and their families. Their work aligns with the UN's Global Strategy for Women's, Children's and Adolescents' Health 2016-2030 which highlights the need to ensure access to improve sexual and reproductive health care and reduce mortality from cervical cancer.
In countries in the Asia-Pacific where cervical cancer is the biggest cancer killer of women, ACCF work to ensure women and girls have access to health care including delivering vital vaccinations, screening and treatment; simple things which can save women's lives.
In Australia, ACCF are dedicated to supporting women and their families who are affected by this disease, providing education and raising awareness on the preventability of cervical cancer.
In these current times of uncertainty, it's so important to focus on what we can do -and it would be great to join our orange forces!
We look forward to you joining us.
