2023 FLO MicroCourse: Create Course Community (June 12 to 16)

This event has passed Register

Event description

The way you design the beginning of your course lays the groundwork for successful collaborative learning experiences. In this MicroCourse you will create an activity to help participants become acquainted and feel motivated to learn together. Then invite others to DO IT.

Facilitating Learning Online (FLO) MicroCourses are short, single-topic, hands-on, and free. In one week you will dip into the FLO experience, leaving with something practical and useful for your teaching practice. Expect to spend at least five hours on course activities and reading between Monday and Friday. You might need to invest more time if you’re unfamiliar with Moodle or have no prior teaching and learning experience.

This course will be delivered primarily asynchronously, but there will be one 60-minute optional synchronous session in Zoom:

  • Thursday, June 15, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM PT

Attendance is optional but highly recommended.

Facilitator:

Helena Prins (she/her) Helena is an advisor of Learning + Teaching at BCcampus and coordinates the FLO portfolio. She began her career as a high-school teacher in South Africa. Over the past 20 years, Helena has taught students of all ages and stages on four continents. A golden thread throughout her teaching experiences has been breaking down barriers to learning. Prior to joining BCcampus in 2020, Helena worked as a career learning and development advisor at Royal Roads University. As an immigrant, she values the opportunity to support all students, especially international students, in finding and building their career paths in Canada. She is a certified career strategist with Career Professionals Canada and associate faculty at Royal Roads University. When not online, Helena enjoys cooking and beach combing with her family and pup. LinkedIn: https://ca.linkedin.com/in/helenaprins
