2023 Mental Health First Aid for Students (Blended Online)
UNSW Health and UNSW Wellbeing are pleased to offer subsidised Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training to UNSW Students.
UNSW Sydney is proud to be recognised as a Gold Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Skilled Workplace, showing our commitment to building a mentally healthy workplace. Students and staff at UNSW are encouraged to get involved by undergoing training to become a Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider) and build local MHFA networks in their Faculties and Schools.
What is Mental Health First Aid?
Just like physical First Aid courses that train members of the public to provide basic first aid to someone with a physical health condition, MHFA teaches skills to help someone who is experiencing a mental health problem.
The training is made up of two components:
- Self-paced eLearning course over 5-6 hours
- 2 x 2.5 hour webinars (see available dates below)
You must be available to attend both webinars in full.
Once the training is complete you can complete an online assessment to become an accredited MHFAider. You are also able to pick up a hard copy MHFA manual at a time that suits you.
Please choose ONE set of dates that is most suitable for you. These available dates are as follows:
- 28 Feb & 1 March, 1:30pm to 4pm both days
- 17 & 18 May, 1:30pm to 4pm both days
- 6 & 8 June, 1:30pm to 4pm both days
- 28 & 29 Aug, 1:30pm to 4pm both days
- 28 Aug & 1 Sep, 1:30pm to 4pm both days
What is the cost?
MHFA is subsidised for all UNSW students through Strategy 2025 funding that is dedicated to enhancing UNSW’s support for students and improving student mental health. The training is available at a reduced rate of $50.
Please carefully read the refund policy before purchasing a ticket as you will be expected to uphold this policy in the chance of any cancellations.
If you require financial support or are a UNSW volunteer (i.e. college RA, Health & Wellbeing Ambassador), please email firstname.lastname@example.org to receive this training free of charge.
