    Event description

    This session

    Speaker: Jimmy Breen

Jimmy is the Chief Data Scientist at Black Ochre Data Labs, leading the data science team that are analysing multiomics datasets from the South Australian Aboriginal Diabetes Study (PROPHECY). He is also working with ALIGN to develop data systems that will help facilitate safe Indigenous Genomics research for Precision Healthcare. Jimmy is also the President of the Australian Bioinformatics & Computational Biology Society (ABACBS), the peak body for Bioinformaticians across Australia.

Topic: Implementing Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Governance in large Genomics projects

Indigenous data sovereignty (IDsov), enacted through Indigenous governance practises, is an important element in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research projects. When applied to large-scale precision healthcare cohorts, which differ in the size and scale of data produced, the implementation of IDsov can be difficult when using current analysis and data storage approaches. Here I will be introduce some implementation strategies for IDsov in large multiomics projects and discuss future components need to be developed in the near future.

This presentation will be recorded and made available to those who have registered.

    Series details

The seminar series aims to provide those with interests in Indigenous Genomics research to improve and develop their knowledge and understanding across the key topics. The seminars aim to provide a broad spectrum of topics across the field.

An up to date list of seminar speakers and their planned topics will be available on the ALIGN website

Please contact us if you have any questions or suggestions for speakers: ALIGN@telethonkids.org.au
