Accommodations, Modifications, and Specially Designed Instruction:
A Whole Array of Practical Ideas

PRESENTER:  Beverly Holden Johns

Bev Johns is currently a Learning and Behavior Consultant having worked in the public schools with students with significant behavioral and emotional disabilities as well as students with learning disabilities for well over 30 years. She was the administrator and founder of an Alternative School, and was responsible for staff development for the Four Rivers Special Education District. She served as a Professional Fellow at MacMurray College until its closing.

She is the author or co-author of over 26 non-fiction books, including the textbook on Learning Disabilities, and fiction books, and numerous articles.

Beverly is the current President of the Learning Disabilities Association of Illinois, serves on the board of the Learning Disabilities Association of America, and is a past president of Delta Kappa Gamma, Illinois State Organization. She received the 2000 Outstanding Leadership Award of the Council for Exceptional Children. She received the Division for the Arts Lifetime Achievement Award. She is also a past president of the Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders.

Over the course of four sessions, we will focus on the differences among accommodations, modifications, and specially designed instruction.  We will focus on why we need to meet the needs of students in a variety of ways, what the law says about why we need to make an array of adaptations and provide specially designed instruction, low-cost adaptations, worksheet adjustments, lecture strategies, behavioral adaptations,  environmental and movement adaptations, testing and homework accommodations, and more.
