2024 - Birthing Kit Assembly Day

Event description

Zonta Club of Sydney Breakfast invite you to our annual Birthing Kit Assembly Day 2024

It is estimated that over 300,000 women (mostly all in developing countries) die annually in childbirth - many from preventable infections. Infections (such as sepsis) acquired during or directly after childbirth, are one of the leading causes of newborn and maternal death.

Good hygiene is critical in eliminating infection during and after childbirth - birthing kits are an internationally accepted intervention to support a clean birth. By providing a clean birthing kit, mothers giving birth at home, or with limited medical support have the resources at hand to reduce infection.

Each item in the Birthing Kit works to reduce infections at key high-risk moments of care during labour, birth and immediately post-birth for the mother, newborn and birth attendant. All these items need to packed into a small pouch that can be economically delivered to women in need.

We have lots of kits to pack and many hands make light work!  We'll start packing at 9.30am and going through to 3pm (unless we finish early!).  Come for the Day! Come for an Hour! Whatever time you can contribute will be helping women and babies in need.

Please join us for a morning of busy hands, conversation and action!

This is a complimentary event and we have initial funding for 200 kits.  We are hoping to fundraise a further $4000 to enable us to assemble 1000 kits on the day.  If you would like to help by making a donation you can do so via:

  1. Direct deposit to our club account - Zonta Club of Sydney Breakfast BSB 032 024, account 791173, or
  2. By adding a donation when you register your attendance through Humanitix.
