Event description

The theme for this year, ‘Faces of the Caribbean’, is a nod to the emblematic and iconic people, attributes, rituals, and habits that create the composite identity generally considered to be Caribbean. With the underlying conception that the Caribbean experience may be defined through an identifiable and distinguishable universal set of attributes, the festival also aims to showcase the diversity of voices from across the region and the diaspora, emphasizing the rich variety within the Caribbean community. Faces of the Caribbean will bring together scholars, writers, artists, archivers, preservationists, and practitioners of the Caribbean to discuss, reckon with, and interrogate the relevance and expansive value of Caribbean writing and the Caribbean writer to the modern world.

Brooklyn in September has already become the epitome of Caribbean excellence. For five consecutive years, the Brooklyn Caribbean Literature Festival (BCLF) has brought together some of the most remarkable writers, artists, cultural workers, intellectuals, and activists from the Caribbean and its diaspora. And this year’s edition will be no exception. With the announcement of the lineup for this year, the festival continues this tradition, featuring some of the most distinguished and influential voices in Caribbean literature.
