2024 GLOW Multicultural Cooking Class - Mexican Cuisine
Event description
Alegria- Mexican Candy
AlegrÃa means 'happiness' in Spanish and these bars are a popular Mexican snack, especially during ANY festive season. They are made mostly with honey and amaranth grain. Historically, Amaranth grain served as an important food source for the indigenous Mexicans (Aztecs) and played a role in their religious ceremonies, (hence the picture of Chichen Itzá pyramid temple in Yucatán Mexico). These Amaranth bars with almonds and pumpkin seeds, are jam packed with 'super food' goodness, so unlike your average sweet treat, they have nutritional benefits.
Kelly is a kiwi who is passionate about Latino culture and has been learning Spanish for the last two years. Unfortunately, she hasn’t been able to travel to Latin America, but it is definitely on her horizon. Kelly loves Mexican culture and making Mexican food, but also has a keen interest in 'super foods' and nutritionally dense foods, which Latin cuisine uses in abundance.
