The Northern Outback Business Awards, hosted by Commerce North West, is an annual event that recognises and celebrates the best of business in Mount Isa and the entire North West Queensland region. The awards encompass businesses in the Burke, Carpenteria, Cloncurry, Croydon, Doomadgee, Etheridge, Flinders, McKinlay, Mount Isa, Mornington Island and Richmond Shires.

These awards aim to acknowledge outstanding contributions to the growth, innovation, development, sustainability, and progression of the region’s economy. We also highlight social and environmental contributions made by organizations through excellence of service, commitment to customers, philanthropic ideals, and ethical behaviour.

At Commerce North West, we take immense pride in our rich history of leadership and advocacy, dating back to our roots as the Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce. However, to better reflect our mission and location, we rebranded in 2014, embracing the identity of Commerce North West, representing the heart of this diverse and vibrant region.

As an organization, we’re a proactive force in addressing employment issues, supporting regional economic development, maintaining positive government relations, fostering tourism growth, and managing exciting events. We believe in promoting spending locally, which is why we’ve initiated campaigns like the ‘Buy Local Gift Card’ and our exclusive ‘Member to Member Offers.’

We also take the opportunity to coordinate annual events such as the Northern Outback Business Awards, North West MPX (formerly known as MineX), and the Elders Best Dressed Premises. Additionally, we host weekly Business Brews and offer various networking opportunities throughout the year.

Our ultimate aim is to promote and advance North West Queensland, attracting new consumers, visitors, and investors. By doing so, we ensure the region’s long-term sustainability and liveability.
