    2024 LMASA Annual Conference - Incursions & Excursions

    Day 1 – Monday 30th Sept at St Francis de Sales College, Mt Barker

    3 hands-on workshops to help you assist in classroom activities:

    1. Biology: Dissecting Equipment
      Learn what each piece of equipment is designed to do, and how to hold and use dissecting equipment the correct way. It includes tips and tricks on managing sharps, biological hazards and clean-up.
    2. Physics: Electric Circuits & Ohm’s Law
      Learn how to get the most out of multi-meters, how to check and repair electrical components and how to problem solve when a circuit doesn’t work.
    3. Chemistry: Fixing Thermometers & Sorting Metal Samples
      Learn how to reconnect a separated column of a thermometer and how to distinguish different metals when the samples have all been mixed up.

    In addition, there will be an introduction to Artificial Intelligence. It will include what it is, what it can do and how to get the most out of it.

    Day 2 – Tuesday 1st Oct at Monarto Safari Park

    A bus will take people from Adelaide and Mt Barker to Monarto Safari Park.

    The second day’s adventure starts at the new entrance to Monarto Safari, an open range zoo with more than 1,500 hectares and home to more than 50 species and 500 animals. Learn about the zoo’s history, the role of conservation and their successes in breeding endangered animals plus their future plans including the return of elephants to SA.

    It will include a safari into the new (and as yet unopened) Wild Africa precinct, in special built safari trucks, where rhinoceroses roam among African herd animals and hippos submerge themselves in specially built ponds.

    There will also be a preview of the team building challenge activity designed for Yr7-9 students. The activities require students to reflecting on their attitude, actions and contributions and help them discover the impact they can have on their environment and the benefits of working as a team.

    Day 2 fits into this year’s National Science Week Theme “Species Survival – More than just sustainability”. The theme aims to highlight the importance of science and innovation in ensuring the survival and thriving of different species in an ever-changing world.
