Join us for a week of USYD Science Extension events designed to jump-start your research journey!
Year 12 Science Extension students will have the opportunity to receive guidance on scientific research and project planning. In addition to the Science Extension Workshops, we’re offering an online information session on the USYD Science Extension Mentoring Program and an online 'Meet a Researcher' session.
Here’s what’s happening during Science Extension Intro Week:
- Monday, 4 Nov 2024: On-Campus Science Extension Workshop at the University of Sydney
- Wednesday, 6 Nov 2024: Online Science Extension Workshop via Zoom
- Thursday, 7 Novr 2024: Online Information Session on the USYD Science Extension Mentoring Program
- Friday, 8 Nov 2024: 'Meet a Researcher' Online Networking Session
2024 On-Campus Science Extension Workshop

About the Program
You and your HSC Science Extension students are invited to join us for an engaging and informative day to help them embark on an exciting journey into authentic scientific research. This workshop will guide them through the essential steps to launch their scientific research project with confidence.
During this on-campus workshop, students and teachers will have the opportunity to:
- Gain valuable insights into the format of the HSC Science Extension course from the Department of Education
- Explore best scientific practices and understand the foundational principles of scientific research
- Learn how to conduct a literature search effectively and pick up tips and tricks on literature research skills
- Take a campus tour with a choice between the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Engineering, or the Faculty of Medicine & Health
- Network with University researchers, Science Extension mentors, and Science Extension alumni from across various faculties
By the time your students leave, they will have the knowledge and confidence to begin their own journey into authentic scientific research.
Terms & Conditions
This program:
- Is free for all attendees
- Can only be booked by a teacher and requires teacher supervision throughout the day
- Registered attendees are required to submit their Student Roll following registration, noting any access or learning special requirements and individual campus tour preferences (Science, Engineering, or Medicine & Health).
- Will require signed media permission forms to bring on the day.
- For the campus tours, places are limited within each group, so preferences will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis.

To Bring
Students should bring:
- Note-taking equipment (e.g., pens, notebooks, devices)
- Food and drink for the day
- Weather-appropriate gear (sun or rain protection)
- Signed media permission forms
