Neurodiversity in the Workplace - HALF DAY ONLINE COURSE (5 Sept)

Event description

NOTE: This course is delivered as live online group training, via Zoom (not self-paced). You will access this course from your computer and will need a camera and microphone to participate. We will email you further instructions prior to the event.

This is an abridged half-day version of our standard full-day course. While a full day is required to cover the subject, this half-day course is a great introduction.

Understand and support neurodivergent staff

How many neurodivergent staff are in your team and how do you accommodate their individual needs?

Neurodiversity refers to variations in the workings of the human brain. So while we are all neurodiverse, people whose brains work in a less typical way are usually referred to as neurodivergent. Neurodivergent conditions include autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, Tourette syndrome and various types of cognitive and learning differences.

While previously thought of as a disability, neurodivergence is now understood to be simply a difference in brain functions, which presents a range of advantages and benefits, as well as challenges in the workplace.

This half-day course provides foundation knowledge about neurodiversity, but the key focus is on practical ways managers can identify neurodivergent staff (given that status is often not disclosed) and accommodate and work with those staff.

Practical, interactive and engaging, this course will build skills in managing neurodivergent people and getting the best from diverse teams.

Topics include:

  • Understanding neurological variation
  • Benefits, advantages and strengths
  • Barriers, challenges and support needs
  • Communication tools: specific skills to communicate effectively with neurodivergent staff
  • Impacts of common office environments and practices on neurodivergent people and how to avoid unnecessary stressors

    This course includes:

    • Engaging, up-to-date materials.
    • Resource package provided in advance to print or access electronically.
    • Certificate of attendance.
