Neurodiversity in the Workplace - ONE DAY COURSE (12 Nov)
Event description
Understand and support neurodivergent staff
How many neurodivergent staff are in your team and how do you accommodate their individual needs?
Neurodiversity refers to variations in the workings of the human brain. So while we are all neurodiverse, people whose brains work in a less typical way are usually referred to as neurodivergent. Neurodivergent conditions include autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, Tourette syndrome and various types of cognitive and learning differences.
While previously thought of as a disability, neurodivergence is now understood to be simply a difference in brain functions, which presents a range of advantages and benefits, as well as challenges in the workplace.
This course provides foundation knowledge about neurodiversity, but the key focus is on practical ways managers can identify neurodivergent staff (given that status is often not disclosed) and accommodate and work with those staff.
Practical, interactive and engaging, this course will build skills in managing neurodivergent people and getting the best from diverse teams.
Topics include:
- Understanding neurological variation, including lesser-known presentations
- Identifying neurodivergent staff (considering many don’t disclose their status)
- Benefits, advantages and strengths
- Barriers, challenges and support needs
- Communication tools: specific skills to communicate more effectively with neurodivergent staff
- Impacts of common office environments and practices on neurodivergent people and how to avoid unnecessary stressors
- Accommodating neurodivergence when giving feedback and managing performance
This course includes:
- Engaging, up-to-date materials.
- Take-home resource package.
- All day catering and beverages - with dietary needs catered for.
- Certificate of attendance.
