Event description

2025 CHISHOLM ST: SPRING PASS

Chisholm St is a live performance space on Wadawurrung country, Ballarat. We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land and recognise that sovereignty was never ceded.

Hosted by Bronwyn Blaiklock, Chisholm St is an intimate foray into fascinating corners of classical music. The platform was dreamt up in the 2021 global pandemic to provide a performance space for performers based in Ballarat and the region. The annual concert series offers an eclectic program with an ethos of shared inspiration. The intimate space gives you a rare glimpse into creative music-making, up close and personal.

Spring Pass

The Spring Pass books you a seat at five concerts between August and December. This option offers discounted prices for waged and concession tickets. Your booking defaults to the Friday night in each series (or Sunday, in the November series), however, you are welcome to swap any concert to Saturday by emailing Bronwyn ahead of time. This pass is only available for purchase until 1 October

All tickets include refreshments - wine, cheese and other delectables - and you are invited to stay on afterwards to meet the performers and enjoy the Chisholm St. community.

Performances are one hour duration unless stated otherwise. Concerts start at 6:00 pm (except Nov 9 which starts at 2pm!); please arrive in time to settle in. Dress for the weather - doors to the deck could be open if the temperature is mild (though our performers' comfort gets priority).

If you are unwell at the time of a concert, please get in touch via email. If we are unable to offer you an alternative, please consider gifting your seat to a friend instead as refunds are not available on the Spring Pass.

The Five Concerts

Paper Mouse | 8 & 9 August*

Trentham-based guitarist and composer, Robbie Melville, and vocalist and double-bass player, Liz Frencham are Paper Mouse, a duo whose signature jazz-inspired style will warm your soul. Join us for this wintery program and enjoy mulled wine on the side.
*NB. Sat 9 August concert is in Hepburn Springs! More details coming soon.

Piano Miniatures | 5 & 6 September
Join Bronwyn Blaiklock to dive into the exquisite soundscapes of the miniatures - solo piano works of mighty proportion yet on a tiny scale. This program will include favourite 'fleeting' pieces by Prokofiev and Rachmaninov, plus Australian works by Ross Edwards and Amadis Lacheta.

Chris McNulty & Friends | 24 October
Critically acclaimed Australian-American jazz vocalist and composer, Chris McNulty, is back at Chishom St by popular demand! Joining her is Ben Robertson, one of Australia's most esteemed jazz bassists, and Melbourne's newest rising star on the piano, Miro Lauritz. One show only!

Royal South Street Stars 2025 | Sun, 9 November (2pm)
This special program celebrates the work of the Royal South Street Society Ballarat Eisteddfod in nurturing young creatives. Angelina Wang and Benjamin Bi are talented pianists who shone in the eisteddfod, taking out several awards between them. Part of their prizes included an invitation to perform at Chisholm St, a special professional development opportunity that will broaden their profile and give them a pay cheque. Chisholm St is very proud to sponsor the Royal South Street Society Ballarat Eisteddfod in this way and help young musicians on their journey. This concert starts at 2pm!

SEASON FINALE: Sondheim Special | 6 & 7 December
Musicals still play a huge role in popular culture. Show-stopping talent, Sarahlouise Younger, will hold your heart in her hand as she journeys through songs by Sondheim, joined by pianist Dan Tuzjac.
