2025 CLAANZ Annual Conference and AGM: Current issues in charity law

CLAANZ is delighted to announce the details of its annual conference and AGM this year.

The conference will explore Current Issues in Charity Law and will be held over 1.5 days, commencing after lunch on Monday 28 July and continuing with a full day on Tuesday 29 July, which will end with the CLAANZ AGM. The ACNC Regulators' Day will follow the conference on Wednesday 30 July.

The conference venue will be the Victorian Bar, Owen Dixon Chambers East, Level 5, 205 William Street, Melbourne. Proceedings will be livestreamed for those around Australia and in New Zealand. We will hold a conference dinner on the evening of Monday 28 July at the Essoign Club, conveniently located at the Victorian Bar. We will also hold rooms at nearby hotels; see below for more details.

We are thrilled to have Professor Matthew Harding as our keynote who will speak on ‘Reimagining Charity Law’.

Topics will include:

• Governance
• Accumulations and reserves
• Regulatory approaches
• Complex charitable structures
• Social housing – current issues
• Managing privacy reforms
• AI issues
• Cy-pres/judicial advice applications
• Cross-jurisdictional charity cases of note

HOW TO SECURE A TICKET

1. Consider whether you need to renew your membership with CLAANZ

CLAANZ has moved to an annual membership model whereby renewal will occur at the end of each financial year, in the lead-up to the annual conference. Ad hoc membership will also be accepted throughout the year.

What this means for you: 

• If you became a member or renewed in the second half of 2024, there is no need to renew again now. Your membership will continue until 30 June 2025.
• All others, we kindly ask you to please renew your membership by choosing a membership option when selecting member-priced tickets. Your current CLAANZ membership will continue until 30 June 2025 so will need to be renewed for the conference.
• If you are not yet a member but would like to be, welcome!
• If you are not yet a member but would like to attend the conference, please choose a non-member ticket.

2. Choose a conference ticket

Tickets range in price for this hybrid in-person and online event. The total ticket price (in AUD) will include a small additional online booking fee via Humanitix which goes to charity.

Student concession tickets are for students enrolled at a tertiary education institution in Australia or New Zealand. There are also concession tickets for retirees.

Member pricing is offered to any organisations registering 10 or more people.

We'll be holding a dinner for conference delegates after proceedings on the first day, Monday 28 July, at the Essoign Club.

Dinner will be two courses (entree and main) - please purchase a conference dinner ticket at the cost price of AUD$85 if you'd like to join us, and list any dietary requirements the venue will need to factor in. We hope you can make it.

NO SHOW & CANCELLATION CHARGES:

Should a guest wish to cancel their confirmed booking, the Hotel must be notified 30 days prior to the arrival in order to avoid any penalty fee.

Between 30 and 14 days to arrival, should a guest wish to cancel/modify their confirmed booking, 1 night penalty fee applies for every full cancellation; a penalty based on the 50% of the night rate will be charged in case of room nights reduction.

After 14 days up to the arrival date, or in case of No Show, any cancellation and/or reduction in room nights will be classed as cancelled room nights and will incur a charge equal to 100% of the full stay.

Guarantee/Payment Policy:

• All reservations require a valid credit card in the same name as the reservation to guarantee your booking. The physical card must be presented at the hotel upon arrival. Your card will be charged the day prior to your arrival, or it may be used for any applicable cancellation or non-arrival fees. Prepaid rates or deposit-required rates will be charged at the time of booking, as indicated in the rate description. Cancellation Policy:
