This course provides practitioners and decision makers with the knowledge to apply safe system engineering practice.  You will learn how to manage roadside hazards, undertake crash investigations, analyse crash data
and develop solutions for high-risk locations.

Day 1

Treating high risk crash locations

• Introduction to road safety in Victoria and the Safe System Framework
• What is road safe system engineering?
• Road signs and line markings
• Victoria Police’s role in crash reporting
• Assessment of road safety projects

Day 2

Treating high risk crash locations

• Crash site investigations and high-risk location treatments
• Group work to includes a site inspection, prepare and present report including recommended treatments and benefit cost ratios.

Day 3

Roadside hazard management

• Roadside hazard management
• Road safety products
• Intelligent transport systems
• Introductory safety barrier design

Paul is a director of Trafficworks, a specialist traffic engineering and design consultant, based in Melbourne.

Daniel Mustata BE (Civil) (Hons)

Daniel is the Principal Road Safety Engineer at Road Solutions Pty Ltd, and a specialist consultant based in Melbourne.

Phillip Jordon BE(Civil), MEngSc (Transportation)

Phil is the Principal of Road Safety International, providing road safety audits and training for the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and European Bank.
