Event description

Join the Australian Conservation Foundation and Conservation Council ACT Region on Wednesday, April 2 for our ACT Community Forum: Protecting nature, the climate and our future.

Since Australia’s national environment protection law took effect 25 years ago, more than seven million hectares of threatened species habitat has been destroyed, and every hour Australia bulldozes the equivalent of 28 Sydney Opera Houses of threatened species habitat. Successive Governments also continue to approve new and expanded coal and gas mines, fuelling runaway climate change. Urgent nature protection and climate action are needed right now! Governments have done too little, and allowed for nature protection and climate to be pushed down the road.

At this forum, local candidates and politicians representing each major political party will be asked questions on their commitments to nature protection and climate action. There will also be the opportunity for questions from the audience.

Last year, hundreds of ACF and Conservation Council supporters turned out across the country for forums on stronger nature protection laws, and for the March for Nature in Sydney. It is more important than ever before that we keep up the pressure. Come along to this important forum to show local politicians and candidates that nature protection and climate action is at the top of the political agenda this election year.

Note: if you register for this event you will be added to the Conservation Council ACT Region and ACF newsletter lists.
