Event description

This year's Kings Park Everlasting Festival marks 60 years of the Western Australian Botanic Garden, with an exciting program of events and activities including the Friends of Kings Park's annual Festival Address. Join us to celebrate wildflower season at our 2025 Festival Address with special guest Digby Growns, Kings Park's Senior Plant Breeder.

Chamelaucium ‘White Diamond’ and other new plant releases from Kings Park & Botanic Garden with guest speaker Digby Growns

The BGPA plant breeding program currently has eleven active projects, with six commercial partners and six community collaborations, with a focus on 3 main genera – Anigozanthos, Chamelaucium and Grevillea.

The Chamelaucium project has been the major success to date with 23 commercial cultivars released globally via Intellectual Property licences in Australia, South Africa, Israel, Italy, the USA, Peru and Brazil providing cutflowers and flowering pots mostly to the ornamental markets in the European Union and Australia, and growing in the USA.

This presentation will describe the convoluted pathway of the release of the floral flagship of the Western Australian Botanic Garden’s 60th anniversary Chamelaucium ‘White Diamond’ plus other new, exciting waxflower, Grevillea and kangaroo paw releases that will provide spectacular additions to your garden.
