2025 FLL Burnie Regional: Archaeology Workshop with Sally Hurst

As part of the afternoon STEM engagement activities at the 2025 FIRST LEGO League Burnie Regional, we are thrilled to offer a rare opportunity to join Sally Hurst — archaeologist, palaeontologist, science communicator, and Superstar of STEM from Macquarie University — for an exciting, hands-on workshop!

Taking place between the conclusion of the tournament's competition elements and the start of the Closing Ceremony/Awards Presentation (where Sally will also be our special guest speaker), this workshop invites young people to dive into the world of archaeology and discovery.

Participants will work with specially created "artefact kits" made up of everyday modern objects. Using observation, teamwork, and critical thinking, they'll piece together clues to build stories about the people these objects once belonged to — just like real archaeologists reconstruct the lives of those from ancient worlds. Sally will guide participants through the scientific, investigative, and imaginative processes that archaeologists use every day.

This experience is a perfect complement to the 2025–26 FIRST LEGO League UNEARTHED season and 2025 FLL Burnie Regional, celebrating exploration, ancient discoveries, and real-world STEM innovation.
