2025 FutureME Volunteering - Bayview College Portland - Thursday 3 April
Event description
FutureME Volunteering
Deakin University is looking for industry and community volunteers to participate in career conversations with young people.
Secondary students from participating schools across Victoria engage in FutureME, a careers program that helps to spark career exploration and empower students to think about their future.
Why should I volunteer?
Your participation in this program is life-changing to our students. Program feedback shows the direct impact that volunteers have on the students, with many noting that the experience encourages them to explore their passions, builds confidence to talk to people and seek employment and gives them hope about their future options.
What can I expect?
As a volunteer, you will:
- engage in speed meets with small groups of students to answer career-related questions;
- share your own career journey, your current work and your future aspirations;
- listen to young people and help them to put new skills into practice;
- be a catalyst for motivation, empowerment and information!
You will be supported and guided through this experience by Deakin staff and join a briefing prior to the event.
What is required?
- A willingness and enthusiasm to engage with young people.
- Just over two hours of your time at a Deakin campus or community event space.
- Current Working With Children Check (volunteer or employee).
- Completion of the FutureMEExpressions of Interest Form.
About us
FutureME is part of a suite of programs developed by the Deakin Engagement and Access Program (DEAP) that works directly with secondary school students to break down socio-economic barriers in accessing education. Our programs aim to help build aspiration and confidence to support students in making decisions about their future educational and career pathways.
