Every year Gympie comes alive with film lovers from far and wide to celebrate short films that are uplifting, heartwarming and inspirational during Queensland’s biggest short film festival, Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival.

Heart of Gold programs carefully-crafted short films from around the world that deeply resonate with all types of audiences. The three day program includes more than 20 sessions of shorts from all genres that best capture Heart of Gold’s vision to screen films that are heart-warming, thought-provoking and entertaining. Our films can be edgy, they can be groundbreaking, and they can be downright hilarious – as long as they beat with a good, strong heart.

But our festival is more than this. We invite you to discover more than amazing films that will connect you with people and stories from around the world (and some from your own backyard). Our program includes live music, curated to entice you to stay a little longer and lose yourself to the moment. Join Q&As with filmmakers from around the world to dig a little deeper and explore the story behind the story. And be connected through food and drink, the oldest tradition of connection that takes place in cultures in every corner of the world. Visual arts, performing arts, music and film that all tell a story. This is the heart of Heart of Gold.

WE WELCOME SCHOOLS IN 2025

We are so excited to welcome back schools to our Festival in 2025. A brand new venue and much more on offer means a meaningful and interesting experience for students.

DATE: Friday 10th October 2025

VENUE: Gympie Cinema, Monkland St Gympie Qld

COST: $15 per student and teachers are free.

PROGRAM (subject to change):

9:15am | Schools arrive
9:30 | Heart of Gold Film Festival team - what goes into programming a film festival? Get the inside scoop on what shapes the Heart of Gold Film Festival and tips for making your future entries standout!
30mins (20mins content and 10min Q&A)
10:00 | Session 1 + Q&A with a filmmaker
90min (1 hour screenings, 30min with a filmmaker)
11:30 | Lunch with interactive "hot set" where students can do a piece to camera/take photos with a set up of professional equipment for students to play with.
12:30 | Session 2 + Q&A with a filmmaker
90min (1 hour screenings, 30min with a filmmaker)
2:00pm | Close

Students will have to bring their own lunch, limited purchase options available.
