Event description

Join us for the second annual Mount Beauty Dachshund Derby and Oktoberfest on Saturday 11 July 2025! Last year, we had an incredible turnout with over 600 patrons attending and 70 racing dachshunds, and this year we aim to hit 100 dachshunds!

This family-friendly event is free to attend and promises a day of exciting races, authentic German cuisine crafted from local produce, and delicious house-brewed German beers. Enjoy live music, Oktoberfest market stalls and entertainment for the kids throughout the day, making it a perfect outing for everyone.

On top of our Dachshund Derby, there will be:

(a) A stein holding competition for over 18s.

(b) A mini stein holding competition for over 6s.

(c) A best dressed doggo competition (all breeds welcome) as well as a best dressed human competition.

(d) Grain bag races, keg rolling comps and more fun games.

To participate in the dachshund races, registration is essential. Secure your spot for just $10 per dog, with all proceeds from the race going to Dachshund Rescue Australia. While you can register on the day, we highly recommend pre-registering via Huminatrix now, as there are only 100 spots available!

Important Information for Dachshund Derby

  1. Racing Format: Races will be conducted in heats, with each heat consisting of 10 dachshunds. The winner of each heat will advance to the finals.

  2. Start Time: The first heat will commence at 2:00 PM.

  3. Registration: All racing dachshunds must visit the registration station (with their human companions of course) to be allocated their heat and to sign a waiver. Please ensure you arrive by 1:00 PM to allow time for this process.

  4. Race Rules: Please note that food and toys are not permitted on the racetrack. You can use toys and food anywhere else though.

  5. Venue Amenities: The venue is dog-friendly, and fresh water will be available for all participants and spectators (humans included). Each participating dachshund also takes home a free show bag.

  6. Safety Reminder: While the race area is secure, please keep a close eye on your dachshund, as they are known to be escape artists.
