Event description

Held biennially since 1974, the Queensland Community Development Conference is held in different regional locations across the state, bringing together passionate individuals committed to strengthening communities.

Rooted in the values of social justice and human rights, community development begins with everyday conversations—at home, in workplaces, among neighbours, and within community groups. These connections spark collective action and positive change.

Driven by Community Development (CD) QLD and hosted by regional partners, the conference is a space to celebrate, inspire, and deepen a shared commitment to citizen-led community development. It provides an opportunity for community members and practitioners to connect, share best practices, and build skills to create meaningful change.

The conference is held over 3 days, commencing with the Les Halliwell address on the first evening followed by 2 days of speakers and workshops from the community development community sharing the insights and practice.  Queensland’s Neighbourhood Centres are also invited to attend the exclusive NCQ statewide gathering on the first day.

This year, the CD Conference is hosted by a collective of Neighbourhood Centres in Far North Queensland and will be held at the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre, the Port Douglas Community Hall and The Clink Theatre in stunning Port Douglas.

Port Douglas, Queensland, is a stunning coastal town located in Far North Queensland, about a 70-minute drive north of Cairns along the scenic Captain Cook Highway. Known for its relaxed atmosphere and breath taking natural beauty, Port Douglas is a gateway to two UNESCO World Heritage-listed sites, the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest.  An accommodation guide offering attendees a 15% discount can be found here.
