Sustainable House Day is an event presented by Renew that provides the opportunity to explore some of Australia’s most inspiring homes, and learn from the people who designed them, built them, and live in them.

About this home

Hugshaus is a retrofit of a 1967 brick veneer home in Canberra, designed for comfort and energy efficiency using the Passive House Planning Package (PHPP). Upgrades include R3.3 wall insulation, existing R2.0 ceiling insulation, and planned underfloor and ceiling top-ups. Now fully electric, the home has a three-phase power upgrade for future solar and EV charging. A continuous bathroom extraction fan enhances ventilation, with plans for a heat recovery system. Serving as a demonstration project, Hugshaus showcases how older homes can be transformed for sustainability and healthier living.

You will need to book a ticket for a specific tour time. This is due to capacity restraints set by the homeowner to ensure the safety of all parties on the day. If you do not arrive at this time you will not be able to tour the home. 

YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PURCHASE TICKETS AT THE HOME.

The exact house address will be emailed to you in the days before the event. Suburb and postcode information is displayed on your ticket. 

Renew is a small not for profit organisation that needs to raise money from ticket sales to cover the costs of hosting this event. In some cases the ticket revenue may also be split with the homeowner.
