"Who Raised You?" A Black Storytelling Week Story Circle
Event description
Who taught you how to tie your shoe? To make the family's special recipe just so? How to take care of yourself, or how to pray? To celebrate Black Storytelling Week 2025, join us for a virtual storytelling circle about the people, beings and places that raised us. Together, we'll remember and celebrate the special moments that formed who we are today.
Think of this storytelling circle as a virtual campfire: an intimate, participatory and gentle space to share and express memories while being held in community. We ask that everyone come prepared to share. There is no criteria for who or what your story can be about, but we do ask you be considerate when it comes to disturbing or graphic content.
Things to know:
Get cozy! Maybe light a candle, prepare your favorite snack, or make a cup of tea
Show and tell is welcome. Bring an artifact to show to the group if you have one.
Everyone has a role. This is not a stage, but a circle. While listening, we ask folks to show their support by being as present as possible.
