Reactions, realities, recovery

This is an abridged half-day version of our standard full-day course. While a full day is required to cover the subject, this half-day course is a great introduction.

The experience of trauma can have a ripple effect throughout a person’s lifetime. It can influence the way they think, work, form relationships and the choices they make – years after the traumatic incident.

Experts increasingly suggest that a majority of adult clients of mental health services are people affected by unresolved (and usually unrecognised) childhood trauma.

Adult mental health symptoms may be indicative of someone who never fully psychologically developed beyond the age they first experienced trauma.

This insightful half-day course explores what we know about trauma and how it presents in people’s lives. It will assist participants to better understand the trauma experience and equip them to provide more appropriate and empathetic services.

Topics include:

  • The nature of trauma
  • Recognising symptoms
  • Complex vs single-incident trauma
  • Avoiding re-traumatisation
  • Understanding adaptive symptoms
  • Working with trauma: principles, screening, treatments, care

This course includes:

  • Engaging, up-to-date materials.
  • Resource package provided in advance to print or access electronically.
  • Certificate of attendance.
