2025 CAPHIA Public Health Hackathon - Reducing vaping harms in young people

The Hackathon is back! For the second time CAPHIA is running a Public Health Hackathon in on Gadigal Land, Sydney November 4 – 6 2025. CAPHIA and The School of Public Health, University of Technology Sydney will bring together students, early career academics, entrepreneurs, community, and industry innovators to investigate a public health problem.

This event brings together current and future leaders to reduce vaping harms in young people by leveraging public health approaches with design thinking principles.

Student teams are supported by mentors (substance use, youth health, tobacco control etc.), and design thinking experts to utilse both topic-specific knowledge and design thinking processes.

Registration - Eligibility

• Registration is open to current students from CAPHIA's member institutions - see the image below or visit: https://caphia.com.au/members/

• The majority of tickets are reserved for Public Health students (including those studying Health Sciences, Health Promotion, Epidemiology, Allied Health, Medicine, Nursing etc.)

• As the best solutions are informed by a variety of perspectives and knowledges, we also limited tickets available for those outside of the health field - e.g. Business, Commerce, Science, Social Work, IT, Arts etc. Spaces are limited!

• Enter your student email address at check-out to help us validate your ticket. Due to limited capacity, CAPHIA reserves the right to cancel tickets purchased by students who are not eligible to attend. 

Attendance and getting there

• Attendance is required from 9am - 7pm on November 4th and 5th and 9am - 5:30pm on November 6th. Partial attendance is not permitted as work is conducted in teams.

• This is a three day event, held in-person at the University of Technology Sydney, NSW. Students are required to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements. 

Equity

• Ticket prices are heavily subsidised and include free catering (lunch, dinner and snacks) plus access to expert mentors and amazing networking opportunities.
