· The St. Matthew Passion

Johann Sebastian Bach’s St. Matthew Passion is one of the towering masterpieces in all classical music, combining profound spiritual depth with dramatic intensity. Through soaring chorales, expressive arias, and gripping narrative, Bach brings the Passion story to life. Composed for double choir and double orchestra, the Bach Society and National Lutheran Choir join forces to present this masterwork on a grand scale.

All of Bach's Chamber (ABC Series):

The Bach Society presents its ABC Series—All of Bach’s Chamber works, with the mission of performing the chamber music of J.S. Bach and those he influenced. These concerts will be approximately one hour in length, no intermission, and will have a post-concert reception where you can enjoy light snacks, refreshments, and meeting the musicians.

· Bach to the Future – With Cellist Charles Asch

Charles Asch presents a captivating solo cello recital that traces the influence of Baroque dance across three centuries of music. Beginning with selected movements from J. S. Bach’s beloved cello suites, the program explores how the rhythms, forms, and spirit of Baroque dance continued to inspire later composers. Works by George Crumb, John Harbison, and György Ligeti reimagine these traditions through distinctive modern voices, creating a fascinating dialogue between past and present.

· The King of Instruments – An Organ Recital with Stephen Hamilton

Concert organist Stephen Hamilton presents a dynamic program exploring the art of variation through works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, and Alberto Ginastera. Mendelssohn’s Organ Sonata No. 6, inspired by Bach’s contrapuntal style and Lutheran chorales, opens the program with a striking set of variations on Our Father Who Art in Heaven. Bach’s own inventive chorale partitas follow, including the beloved O God, Thou Faithful God. The concert concludes with Ginastera’s thrilling Toccata, Villancico y Fuga, a virtuosic blend of Baroque forms and Argentine folk influences that pays dramatic tribute to Bach’s enduring legacy.

J.S. Bach’s Musical Offering stands as one of the most extraordinary monuments of musical intellect and imagination in the Baroque era. Composed in response to a theme given to Bach by King Frederick the Great of Prussia, the work unfolds as an exploration of counterpoint, invention, and expressive depth. Canons, fugues, and trio sonatas are woven together with remarkable ingenuity, transforming a single melody into a rich universe of sound. At once rigorous and poetic, The Musical Offering invites listeners into Bach’s workshop of the mind, where mathematical precision and musical beauty exist in perfect balance.
