2026 Back to School Creative Workshops | Old Scholars Week

Join us for Pembroke's version of Paint and Sip! Let your creativity flow and learn a thing or two from Pembroke's Head of Visual Arts, Michael Ferrier and Art Teacher, Angela Brewerton.

We will have two classes available with a maximum of 15 'students' per class. Whether you're a seasoned artist seeking fresh perspectives or a novice eager to unleash your inner creativity, we'd love for you to join us!

All materials, an apron and drinks and nibbles (following the workshop) will be provided on the day.

Venue: Shipsters Road Building, Pembroke School, 3 Shipsters Road, Kensington Park
Dress code: Whatever you feel comfortable in, but you may get clay or ink on you!

Workshop 1 - Ceramics (Hand-built methods)
Time: 10:30am - 12:30pm
Facilitator: Michael Ferrier, Head of Visual Arts

Here you will learn to make a simple ceramic pot using the coiling method of construction. Once you master this technique, it will allow you to make just about anything in clay. You will also add texture and surface decoration to your hand-built vessel. Afterwards your pot will be fired in our kilns and will be available for you to collect at a later date.

Michael has been teaching Art at Pembroke since 2000 and has been making pots for many years, which he has exhibited several times at our art staff exhibitions, held every two years during the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival.

Workshop 2 - Printmaking
Time: 1:00pm - 3:00pm 
Facilitator: Angela Brewerton, Art Teacher

In this workshop, you will explore the art of printmaking, learning how to carve a design into a printing block and transfer your image onto paper. You’ll discover how different tools, textures, and inking techniques can bring depth and character to your prints. By the end of the session, you will have created your own unique prints to take home.

Angela has been teaching Art at Pembroke since 1996 and has a deep passion for exploring traditional and experimental art techniques. Her own creative practice includes drawing, painting, and printmaking, with a focus on composition, form, and expressive mark-making.
