2026 Community Fire Unit Training Course
Description
Spend a day with the Scotland Island Rural Fire Brigade learning about fire behaviour and defensive fire fighting techniques to help keep your family, your property and your neighbours safe this fire season.
This is a great opportunity for existing Community Fire Unit members to refresh their skills and for new members to join the Community Fire Unit. Our aim is to have every adult resident that is capable of doing the course to complete it. Having more knowledge and fire fighting capability in our community will help manage the risk of bushfire this season and in the future.
We'll provide lunch on the day so please let us know if you have any specific dietary requirements and we'll do our best to accommodate them.
When registering for the course please select the most appropriate registration:
Existing Community Fire Unit member - this is a refresher course for people that have done it before
New Community Fire Unit member - this is for people that want to join the RFS and the Community Fire Unit. We'll send you further details about how to join the RFS. You'll be issued personal protective equipment you can keep at home for when it is needed. To maintain your membership you'll have to complete at least 1 days training each year
Just want to do the course - you can do the course without joining the RFS or the Community Fire Unit. You'll learn things that will help in the event of a fire. You will not be issued personal protective equipment
Here are the topics we'll cover:
- working safely
- fire danger ratings and what they mean
- bushfire survival plans
- bushfire behaviour
- preparing & protecting your property
- fire fighting equipment & tactics (inc pumps & hoses)
