Voice off after the first Level 1 class

The first class will have an Auslan interpreter. After the first class, you are expected to be voice-off, you can communicate with the teacher by typing, writing on paper or whiteboard, gesture, and your newly acquired Auslan skills. Immersion is the best for language learning, and being voice-off gives you a better learning experience. It is also disrespectful to speak if there is not an interpreter present, as the Deaf teacher is unable to understand.

For classes SL2 and above, you are expected to be voice-off for all class sessions.

What to expect

For SL1: Your first class will have an Auslan interpreter and will be focused on Deaf Awareness training.
You just need to bring yourselves.
Please help set up the room with 25 chairs in a U shape facing the projector.
Please help return the room to its original layout at the end of class.
We will be looking for 2 student reps from each class to help the teachers if any problems arise with the computer, and to contact the SignSoc execs if anything unexpected happens.

We look forward to seeing you in classes,

SignSoc Team
