Labour Weekend in Fiordland means one thing - the Stabicraft Te Anau Manapouri Fishing Classic is back!
Now in its 19th year, the Fishing Classic is a true family event, bringing together anglers for a weekend of fishing across Lakes Te Anau and Manapouri and the Upper Waiau.
Whether you’re out chasing the perfect fish, enjoying a weekend on the water with family and friends, or hoping your name ends up in the big draw, it’s a pretty special way to spend Labour Weekend in Fiordland.
And of course, there’s the big one…
Stabicraft are back with another incredible major prize - an 1850 Supercab boat, trailer and motor package valued at over $115,000!
With plenty of other prizes up for grabs across adult, junior and child categories, Catch & Release options, weigh-in prizes and a full weekend of fishing, there’s something for everyone.

2026 Cruise Milford Take A Kid Fishing competition, McGregor Pond
There is also a separate competition for children aged 11 years and under to give fishing a go. The competition is held on Saturday of Labour Weekend out at McGregor Pond, beginning at 7.30am through till 6pm. There will be expert anglers on hand to help with setting up rods and lines and to give a few tips on how to fish. They will also help to pull in the big one! The pond is stocked with fish in the days leading up to the competition giving everyone the best chance to bag a fish.

Final day of fishing and official weigh-in. 11am - 2pm All fish must be in the weigh-in queue or on the app by 2.00pm. Prizegiving follows the close of weigh-in, including category prizes, spot prizes and the Top 5 Stabicraft Boat Draw.
FAQs
- Where do I find my QR code?
Your individual entry QR code will be emailed to the address supplied when you enter.
If you are physically weighing in a fish, you must have your QR code ready at weigh-in so we can quickly identify your entry and process your fish.
- How does the Catch & Release App work?
You can record more than one eligible fish through the Catch & Release App.
Fish entered through the App are judged by length for the relevant Catch & Release prize categories.
An eligible App entry also qualifies adult entrants for the Stabicraft Boat Draw.
- Can I use the App and still physically weigh in a fish?
Yes - but there is an important difference.
You can record fish through the Catch & Release App and later choose to physically weigh in one fish. However, once you physically weigh in a fish, all of your Catch & Release App entries become ineligible for Catch & Release prize categories.
Your physically weighed fish will then be judged in the relevant weigh-in category.
- Can I enter on the weekend?
Yes. Entries remain available online until 2.00pm Saturday 24 October 2026.
If you need help entering, staff will be available at Fishing Headquarters. No paper entry forms will be accepted.
- What time does weigh-in close?
The final cut-off is 2.00pm Sunday 25 October.
You must be in the weigh-in queue before 2.00pm for your fish to be accepted.
- How are physically weighed fish judged?
Trout are judged by condition factor, while perch and salmon are judged by weight.
Fish must be gutted, not beheaded, chilled, in an edible condition and over 30 cm in length.
Weigh-in officials may reject any fish they consider unsuitable.
- How do I win the Stabicraft boat?
To be in the draw for the Stabicraft major prize, you must:
be 18 years or over;
be entered in the Fishing Classic;
hold a valid fishing licence; and
record an eligible fish through the Catch & Release App or physically weigh in an eligible fish.
Five finalists are selected at random from all eligible Boat Draw entries. Those five then go into the final Barrel Draw, where one winner takes home the Stabicraft major prize.
