2026 The Tap Project Tour
Event description
The Tap Project Tour is back in 2026!
The Tap Project Tour travels Australia's leading tap dancers and choreographers around the country to engage local students in tap and performing arts development. These workshops are with leading tap dancers and choreographers dedicated to sharing their knowledge.
Wether you are a steeled tap dancing shredder, or you're just looking to grow your skills, this is a must book event on the performing arts calendar!
All of the information you need is below, so please read for times, dates and locations. It is not possible for the event page to display multiple locations for events across the country, so do not be concerned about the location on your ticket! Please rely on the information below.
We have many adult sessions available, but not in all locations. These are generally only a 1 hour class.
If you are turned off by large amounts of reading, I have done a short overview below!
Short Overview
Most classes run 10am-1:30pm concluding with a performance and 2pm-3pm for adults.
The dates and locations are listed below in the description
We split the classes into 10-13 year olds and 14+
The mentors change depending on the location
What can you expect?
Students will start with a group warm-up and then split into groups for classes. There will be 2-3 mentors and the whole day will conclude with a performance from the students and the mentors. We allow the day to be quite free and less structured. This allows us to cater to the students that are present, rather than "one size fits all." The adults session will run after the performance, starting at 2pm. Adults are welcome to come and watch the performance which commences at 1:30pm.
Group Splits: Students will now be split by age: 10–13 years and 14+ years. This is not a strict rule — students may be bumped up based on their ability. The younger room will be pitched at a more difficult standard this year, as we are amending based on attendee feedback. Our focus remains to challenge, inspire, and set high expectations for our capable performing arts students. If you have found some of the material difficult previously, contact us and we can offer some valuable resources to grow your basics before you attend again!
Why is this unique?
The Tap Project Tour is one of only a handful of workshops that are solely dedicated to tap dance in Australia. We place importance on delivering tap dance to regional areas as well as the major cities. The director selects the highest calibre of mentors with experience in teaching and on stage. The Tour team is all about creating an environment that is non-competitive with a focus on learning and inspiring. Our hope is to grow the community of tap dancers in Australia.
What else?
Lunch is from 12:30-1pm, If you're a parent and wish to take your child for lunch you're welcome, otherwise lunch could be brought. Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move in. Ballet tights, buns, and leotards are not encouraged, but if this is what you are truly comfortable with, then go for it.
We advise that this event is for students aged 10 and up. Those slightly under this age may be suitable but please enquire with us first.
Most of the venues have been hired by us to run the workshops, so they will not necessarily know relevant information about the day. Please wait for the team to arrive and they can sort out everything you need. In some locations we have long distances to travel so, traffic, coffees, safety stopping all pending, we may not arrive until 9:45am.
Adults we are continuing our classes this year! If you have never done a tap class before, it may not be suitable, but you would only need a little bit of knowledge to take part. The choreography will accommodate those less mobile so that any dancers in the category of “wise and experienced” can feel comfortable. Please note that the Adults sessions are only available in a limited number of locations, so check the information for your desired location!
To note
On The Tap Project Tour, we welcome and celebrate differences. We are proud to make opportunities available for anyone and everyone that is passionate about tap dance. The Tap Project is committed to making an event that will be inspiring for anyone regardless of race, colour, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, or gender identity.
The Tap Project firmly notes tap as an African American art form for which it is important to engage in its rich history. We endeavour to teach in a less formal format as tap was historically taught, speak the names of lesser-known tap dancers, promote the significance of improvisation, and keep musicality at the forefront of choreography.

Testimonial: "Testimony to the program, some of Tom’s students travel 2 hours to come to class from Wollongong and The Central Coast because it is so unique and valuable. The program sparks a light in them that you can’t find anywhere else. My hope is that in the future more children will be able to experience this great program and benefit as mine have" – Ingrid Rihanni
