Join us for this jam packed session exploring practical uses of generative AI in higher education. Dr Amara Atif and A/Prof Adrian Camilleri will share real-world approaches to enhancing student learning, engagement, and AI literacy.

Rethinking Think-Pair-Share with Generative AI as a Thinking Partner

Guest Presenter:

Dr Amara Atif

This presentation demonstrates how a familiar Think-Pair-Share (TPS) active learning strategy can be enhanced through the purposeful integration of generative AI. Rather than replacing peer learning, AI is positioned as a thinking partner during the individual "Think" phase, enabling students to test assumptions, explore alternative perspectives, identify misconceptions, and strengthen their reasoning before engaging in peer discussion. Participants will see how carefully designed prompts, educator facilitation, and structured reflection foster richer classroom discussions, greater student confidence, more equitable participation, and responsible AI use. The session will showcase the learning activity design, prompt examples, implementation insights, and practical strategies that educators can readily adapt across disciplines with minimal changes to their existing teaching practice.

Gamification and GenAI: What Actually Happened When I Turned a 1,000-Student Subject Into a Game

Guest Presenter:

A/Prof Adrian Camilleri

I'll walk through "Synapse Marketing" - a full narrative-gamified redesign of my undergraduate consumer behaviour subject, where students spend the semester as marketing interns guided by two AI-generated mentors, an AI-produced weekly podcast, a gated quest structure, and a semester-long Easter-egg hunt for a physical prize. I'll demonstrate a few of these artefacts live, including the subject's most unusual move: a fictional AI character who fails at marketing every week, used deliberately to teach critical AI literacy. I'll then share real evidence from official student feedback and my own pilot survey data - the good and the bad - including where the design worked, where it didn't, and what I'd change next.
