Event description

Symposium on Collaborative Futures: Shaping the Next Decade of Translation and Interpreting Studies

In 2025, the Monash Master of Interpreting and Translation Studies program will celebrate its 20th anniversary. To mark this important milestone, we are hosting a one-day symposium on Tuesday, 30 September, coinciding with International Translation Day.

The translation and interpreting professions have undergone profound changes, expanding across platforms, modalities, and domains. These shifts have redefined the role of the translator and interpreter, who must now navigate new tools, workflows, and expectations. At the same time, academic research in translation and interpreting studies has diversified, giving rise to a wide range of methodologies and conceptual frameworks.

This Symposium aims to reflect on these developments by exploring differing perspectives, examining evolving needs and expectations, and identifying opportunities for greater synergy between academia and industry. Through dialogue and collaboration, we hope to deepen our collective understanding and chart paths forward in this complex and dynamic field.

You are cordially invited to attend this dynamic forum bringing together academic and industry voices to explore the many transformations that have shaped the field over the past two decades and to consider what the future might look like.
